EMULSION SINFONIETTA SET INFO & FULL LIST OF WORKS

Following 3 successful events in London and one in collaboration with Cheltenham Music Festival, BASCA Award Winning Composer and former BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist Trish Clowes now brings her acclaimed Emulsion cross-genre music festival to mac birmingham.

Emulsion provides a platform for contemporary composition and improvisation and fosters collaboration between like-minded musicians. This special one day event will showcase a triple bill, with the Emulsion Sinfonietta performing a set comprised of new work from Cevanne Horrocks-Hopayian, Percy Pursglove and Hans Koller, as well as existing Emulsion repertoire (including Joe Cutler’s work first performed at Cheltenham). Iain Ballamy & Joe Wright will make guest appearances.

Also performing will be Clowes’ new small ensemble My Iris (with Ross Stanley on organ and piano, Chris Montague on guitar and James Maddren on drums), performing selections from Clowes’ new album of the same name, to be released on Basho Records on 13th January 2017. The Hans Koller Quartet featuring John O’Gallagher will open the evening.

In addition to these performances in mac’s main theatre, the event will explore other spaces in the venue, featuring ‘pop-up’ solo and duo performances and a panel discussion chaired by Fiona Talkington in the afternoon. The work of students from Birmingham City University and Birmingham Conservatoire will feature throughout the evening, in particular two new works by Bobbie Gardner and Anna Olsson will be premiered.

This event will be recorded for broadcast on BBC Radio 3’s Hear and Now and Jazz Now.

This event is supported by Arts Council England.

Emulsion thanks their Kickstarter backers, the mac birmingham, BBC Radio 3, Arts Council England, Birmingham Conservatoire, Birmingham City University, PRS for Music Foundation & Basho Music.
